How to Add Reviews to a Website (Text, Stars, Photos, Widgets)

Ichonic11 min read

How to add customer reviews to a website: written reviews, star ratings, photo and video proof, widgets vs testimonials, and collection. Wix stores: Proofy.

To add reviews to website product pages, you need two jobs done: collect real customer feedback, then display it as star ratings, written reviews, and optional photo or video proof near the buying decision. A text quote in a homepage carousel is not the same system as product-page reviews. Start with collection and a calm product-page layout. Decorate later.

This guide is about review content types and display choices for any store site. It is not a ranked list of review apps. Wix Stores install path: Proofy Reviews. What "add reviews" actually means

Searchers who want to add reviews to a website usually need one of these outcomes:

  • Show customer reviews on website product pages
  • Display star ratings next to price
  • Publish photo or video reviews
  • Collect new reviews after purchase
  • Clarify testimonials vs product reviews

If you only paste five glowing quotes into a text block, you added marketing copy. You did not add a review system. A review system stores ratings, ties feedback to products when needed, and lets you moderate and reply.

Review content types

TypeWhat shoppers seeWhen it helps
Review textWritten experience, fit, quality, shipping notesMost catalogs; answers objections
Star ratingsAverage score and count near priceFast trust scan on product pages
Photo / video reviewsCustomer media in a galleryFashion, home, beauty, anything visual
Review widgetsApp-driven lists, banners, badgesStores that need moderation and requests
TestimonialsBranded quotes, often homepageBrand story; not a product rating replacement

Stars without readable reviews feel thin. Reviews without stars force shoppers to skim harder. Photo reviews help when appearance matters. Skip media widgets until you have media.

Collect before you decorate

Display without collection is a dead end. Empty stars teach shoppers the store is new or ignored. Build an ask loop first.

  1. Ask after the customer has the product and time to use it.
  2. Use one clear channel. For online stores, email review requests are the default.
  3. Keep the form short: rating, short text, optional photo.
  4. Moderate before publish when media or sensitive categories are involved.
  5. Reply to negative reviews in public when the issue is real.

Important

Proofy review request automation is email-based. It does not send SMS or text-message review requests. Do not install a separate "SMS review" tool and call it Proofy.

Display: widgets vs static copy

Static homepage quotes are easy to edit and easy to fake. Review widgets pull from a review database: average rating, count, filters, media, and merchant replies. For ecommerce product pages, widgets win because the proof sits next to Add to Cart.

  • Product page: stars near price + written list below the fold
  • Home page: optional overall rating banner after you have enough reviews
  • Floating badge: only after the page already has proof; avoid clutter wars with chat buttons
  • Do not stack five review widgets on one template

Testimonials vs product reviews

Testimonials sell the brand story. Product reviews sell the SKU. Mixing them confuses shoppers who came for sizing, durability, or shipping notes.

  • Use testimonials on About or homepage when the quote is real and attributable
  • Use product reviews on the product page with stars and SKU context
  • Do not label a testimonial carousel as "customer reviews" if there is no rating system behind it

Wix path with Proofy

On Wix Stores, the default product-review install is Proofy Reviews. Install the app, place product-detail rating and product review list widgets, then turn on automatic email requests after fulfillment with a delay that matches delivery. Import historical reviews only when mapping is correct.

  • Eight widgets available; start with rating + list
  • Photo and video submissions supported for media galleries
  • Imports: generic CSV, Etsy CSV/JSON, AliExpress by product ID, Amazon via browser extension
  • Verification in Proofy is email confirmation from the review request, not a payment-network purchase seal
  • No Google Business import and no review JSON-LD / AggregateRating claims from Proofy today

Mistakes

  • Publishing review widgets with zero reviews behind them
  • Treating homepage testimonials as a full product-review system
  • Buying or inventing reviews to fill the page
  • Claiming payment-verified buyers when you only confirmed an email
  • Promising Google SERP stars from an on-site widget install
  • Stacking review badges, chat buttons, and trust seals until the product page feels noisy

When not to add review widgets

  • You have no traffic and no orders. Fix acquisition before review theater.
  • Nobody will moderate photo uploads or reply to bad reviews.
  • The product page is already slow. Cut scripts before another widget.
  • The real problem is unclear photos, shipping, or sizing. Reviews will only document that pain.
  • You need Google Business Profile stars on a service homepage. That is not the same job as product reviews.

FAQ

How do I add reviews to a website?+

Collect real customer reviews, then show them with star ratings and a written list near the product or offer. On Wix Stores, install Proofy Reviews, place product rating and review-list widgets, and turn on email review requests. Do not paste fake quotes into a text box and call it reviews.

What is the difference between reviews and testimonials?+

Product reviews are tied to a SKU, rating, and often verified purchase context. Testimonials are branded quotes, often on a homepage, without a full product rating system. Use both carefully. Do not swap one for the other when shoppers expect product-page stars.

Do I need photo or video reviews on day one?+

No. Start with stars and written reviews. Add photo or video galleries after you have media to show. Empty media widgets look worse than no gallery.

Can Proofy add Google review stars to my site?+

Proofy is for product and store reviews on your site. It does not import Google Business Profile reviews. Google Business display is a different job from product-page reviews.

Will adding reviews put stars in Google search results?+

On-site widgets help shoppers on your pages. Google star rich results are a separate decision based on structured data and Google's rules. Proofy does not claim review JSON-LD or AggregateRating rich results today.

Is this the same as choosing a Wix review app?+

No. This guide covers how review content fits on a website. App choice for Wix Stores is covered in the Wix review app guide. Default install for Wix product reviews is Proofy Reviews.
